12:00pm- Yesterday, what I was expecting to be a day of hunger and boredom, took a sudden turn when a couple picked us up. We are out in the boon-docks and people still offer rides to strangers. Very trusting folks up here. In Miami even if they stopped I may not get in. What a difference a few hundred miles make.
We stopped at an Arby's and they bought me and Skil's some roast beef sandwitches, we were sitting out side so I could keep an eye the kid. The missus said she wanted to go over to the Wal-Mart for a minute. So, me and the gentleman sat and talked about my trip. We talked for a half an hour and Skil's took a nap. The lady came back from shopping and lord, she went shopping. Carrying a cart full of bags. Women, geesh! Now the strange part, all this stuff is for me. WTF! I wanted to hollar "You dumb bitch, I have to carry this stuff" but I was very appreciative and almost got a tear in my eye. While I was trying to get it all packed, I noticed her choice of necessities for the road. Pajamas?, toothpaste, tooth brush, razors, socks, underwear, sweat pants, coat, and other stuff I had no use for. I would guess that she spent over a $100.00 on this stuff. I'm am totally lost as what to say. Then they asked if I was going to call my family for the holidays and I said if they will except a collect call. So, we're back on the road and the man says one more stop, now what? He goes back into Wal-Mart and when he returns, he hands me 3 $20.00 phone cards. I had mentioned that I hadn't seen the ocean yet, so they went out of the way and let me stand there and stare at the ocean for a few minutes. Then off to Shallote and they dropped me off and gave me a twenty dollar bill. Hugged me good by and I felt like I was losing a long lost relative. After being in the Dumps all day, over it being my daughters birthday and all of a sudden everythings alright again. Still wish I knew DeeDee's phone number though. What a day!
