The Cross-Town Route Sucks!

December 4, 2001- Tuesday- Day 39
9:30am- We are off towards Spartanburg this morning, without any plans, whatsoever. I have $8.82 in my pocket. Less than a week I spent almost $200.00, jeez!, what an idiot. Really need some kind of work, I'll do anything. A S.C. map would also be a big boost to my failing confidence. I threw a whole beer away this morning, that's a good start! I am in no hurry, maybe I'll just walk around the USA the rest of my life. Even with all the bad times, I'm beginning to like not knowing whats around the next bend.
11:30am- Me and Skil's are taking a break near I-85 and Asheville Hwy. Some fellow picked us up in Boiling Springs and brought us to, who knows where! I think it is the oppisite way I wanted to go, though. I guess I'm actually on 176East. Me and Laura took this road from Pedro's (South of the Border Motel) to get here in the first place. There is a newspaper laying here that is dated 10/27/01, the same day I left Naples. Strange! Got to find a place to find food tonight and absolutely lost right now. I'll just pick a road and start walking, hell with it!
2:00pm- I have to learn not to take every ride thats offered, we are walking right down the middle of Spartanburg and I don't see the end of the city. What a mess this is. I am slap wore out, so I suppose Skil's is pretty beat-up too. I found a pair of jeans that someone lost somehow and a sewing kit, which may come in handy one day. Found a homeless camp along 221, that has been deserted and all his belongings are still here. That can only mean one thing, the law came and took him away. I'm going on out of town, don't need that kind of stress.
That was a struggle, crossing that town, but I am starting to see wide-open spaces now. We are still on 176 and I passed a sign that said it was 92 miles to Columbia. Now to find a way to feed Skil's. I have to learn to be more sociable, and talk to some of these over-friendly people.
