Settling In For the Long Haul !

January 30, 2002-Wednesday- Day 96
2:00am- I just got back from the TA Truck Stop and I got a hot shower. Ken showed up and said his friend down at the tire plant, didn't think it was a good idea for me to take a shower there. That was fine with me. So, he took me to the truck stop and, I can't believe this, he got on his CB and asked the truckers if any had a shower pass that they weren't going to use. I am thinking how does a person acquire the nerve to ask for something from total strangers? Man, there ain't no way I could ask anybody for anything, and it just flows out of most people, weird!
After I get back to work, if I get back to work, I'll make sure I keep in touch. I am going to have to move on out of here today, but I am going to call Danny first and see if I go north or south.
1:30pm- I spoke with Danny and he said to make my way back to Campobella, he has something that will be ready in 3 or 4 days. Alright! I packed up and was leaving and I walked past Rufus' house and he was in the yard. I wanted to say thanks and I'd keep in touch, but now I have to move up to Campobella area. Well now, ole' Rufus wasn't having none of that walking stuff, when he's got a perfectly good truck sitting in the yard. We loaded up and headed north, he took us to Campobella and we said our good-byes and parted company. I looked around and didn't see the right place to set up camp. So, we walked north to the next town, which is Landrum SC. I found a place right near I-26 and away from the population, almost an ideal place. I have to cross a wide open area to get to my tent. As I was walking through town, some guy in a big old Caddilac pulled up and gave me 20.00 and said make sire I feed that dog. I told him the truth, that my dog eats first, if I have only one meal, he gets it. Pretty warm today with a 15 MPH wind. We are in a grove of Cedar's and smells good. Now, I am going to take a walk and find a phone and tell Danny where I'm at.
