The Cashier Trail

March 26, 2002-Tuesday- Day 151
5:00pm- We arrived in Cashiers last night an hour before dark, just in time to find a place to pitch camp before the rain came. It has rained steady all day and we made one trip into town to look around. They have a trail to walk and explore the history, so Skil's wanted to go see what made this place tick, Who am I to argue with his logic? Of course the name of this trail is, The Cashier Trail, should have known! We stopped at a camping store and I priced tents, almost bought one, but I didn't want to part with $160.00 just yet. I'll stay with the Wal-Mart special I am using now. The trail just covered the tourist traps and had nothing to do with history, as far as I could tell. I don't think that the Cherokee's shopped here before they were led out on the trail of tears to Oklahoma. I guess they could have, though! The rain must be making me looney. I hope the weather shows us some love and goes away before morning. I don't want to hang out here to long.Probably a nice place, but nothing here, unless you are a tourist. I passed a lot of Golf Courses since I passed Lake Toxaway. That should have alerted me that we were entering snowbird country. I have a Bi-Lo across the street and I am going to amble on over and get us supper. It will be a cold meal tonight, due to my location. A fire or smoke may not go over well with the locals. On to Highlands in the morning, I am seeing blue patches of sky.
